‘Yaarian 2’ Makers Get Relief as Punjab and Haryana HC Quashes FIR

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has quashed an FIR registered against the director, producer and an actor of the film Yaarian 2 over the portrayal of a non-Amritdhari Sikh actor wearing a kirpan in one of the film’s songs.

The FIR was registered following a complaint alleging that a song from Yaarian 2, uploaded on YouTube, showed clean-shaven actor Neezaan Jafri wearing a ‘Sri Sahib/Kirpan’, which the complainant claimed was against Sikh customs.

While examining the case under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the High Court observed that the act attributed to the filmmakers—showing a non-Amritdhari Sikh wearing a ‘Sri Sahib/Kirpan’—could not be termed an insult to the Sikh religion.

Based on its observations, the court quashed the FIR against the film’s makers, providing relief to the director, producer and actor named in the case.
