Twisha Sharma Death Case: The investigation into the death of 26-year-old Twisha Sharma has taken a significant turn after a Bhopal court remanded her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, to five days of CBI custody. Twisha, a resident of Noida, had married Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh just five months ago after the two reportedly met through a dating app. On May 12, she was found dead at her residence in Bhopal under circumstances that raised serious concerns. Following her death, Twisha’s family accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to continuous domestic violence and harassment over dowry demands. The family alleged that she faced both mental and physical abuse after her marriage and claimed that the persistent harassment ultimately led to her death. Based on these allegations, an FIR was registered at Katara Hills Police Station, and the case was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a detailed probe.
The case drew widespread attention due to the involvement of Giribala Singh, a retired judge who currently serves as the President of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Madhya Pradesh. She was initially granted anticipatory bail by a sessions court on May 15, with the court observing that the primary allegations appeared to be directed at Twisha’s husband. However, the Madhya Pradesh High Court later cancelled her anticipatory bail on May 28, paving the way for her arrest. Samarth Singh had also approached the High Court seeking protection from arrest after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a lower court, but he later withdrew his petition. Following these developments, the CBI arrested both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh and produced them before a Bhopal court. The court has now granted the investigating agency five days of custody, allowing it to question the accused and gather further evidence. The CBI is expected to examine the allegations of dowry harassment, domestic violence, and the events leading up to Twisha Sharma’s death as it seeks to determine the exact circumstances behind the case. The incident has reignited concerns over dowry-related harassment and violence against women, while Twisha’s family continues to seek justice and accountability in the case.
