Three Held After Elderly Visually Impaired Woman Killed in Lucknow Violence

A 75-year-old visually impaired woman was killed and her son injured after a long-standing dispute between two neighbouring families turned violent in Lucknow’s Banthra area on Wednesday night. The deceased, identified as Siyavati Rawat, suffered a fatal head injury during a clash that erupted in Mawai Padiyana village. Her son, Rajendra Rawat, also sustained injuries in the incident.

According to police, the violence broke out after an argument escalated into stone-pelting and physical assault involving sticks, bricks and stones. Preliminary investigations suggest that some men had consumed alcohol together before returning to the village, where the old dispute resurfaced and led to the confrontation. Family members alleged that the clash was linked to a long-standing personal enmity between the two households.

Based on a complaint filed by Ravi Rawat, brother of the injured Rajendra, police have registered a case of murder and voluntarily causing hurt against several members of the neighbouring family. Three accused — Dharmendra, Govind and Pancham — have been detained, while security has been tightened in the village. Police said the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case are being examined.
