With the beginning of Nautapa, the impact of extreme heat is being felt rapidly across several parts of Himachal Pradesh. Temperatures in the lower districts of the state, including Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Solan, Nahan, and Mandi, are being recorded above normal levels. Known for its cool climate and pleasant weather, Himachal Pradesh is this year witnessing heat conditions similar to those experienced in the plains. The sudden change in weather has increased concerns among both local residents and tourists.
According to the Meteorological Department, intense heat conditions are currently affecting large parts of North India, and their impact has now reached the lower regions of Himachal Pradesh as well. Although temperatures are not expected to rise as high as those in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, or Madhya Pradesh, several areas may continue to experience “above normal heat” conditions. On the other hand, rainfall and hailstorm activity are also likely in the higher-altitude regions, which may provide temporary relief. However, the continuously changing weather pattern is also increasing uncertainty.
Experts believe that the rising temperatures in the hills are a clear sign of changing climate patterns, where temperatures have been gradually increasing every year. The impact of Nautapa has made it evident that the reach of extreme heat is expanding steadily, and even mountainous states are no longer untouched by it. Changing weather conditions in Himachal Pradesh could become a major challenge in the future. If temperatures continue to rise in this manner, the state’s cool identity and pleasant climate may also be affected. The growing impact of climate change indicates that in the coming years, even the hills may have to face severe heatwave conditions.
