The Indian Railways on Friday flagged off the new Amrit Bharat Express train service between Amritsar in Punjab and New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, aiming to improve long-distance connectivity and provide affordable travel for passengers. The train was inaugurated by Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu along with railway officials during a special launch event. The service is expected to benefit migrant workers, students, business travelers, and tourists traveling between northern and eastern India. Railway authorities stated that the initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to modernize railway infrastructure and improve passenger convenience. The launch comes amid continued expansion of rail connectivity projects across the country.

According to railway officials, the Amrit Bharat Express will connect major cities and towns across Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal, significantly improving transportation accessibility for passengers from economically weaker and middle-class backgrounds. The train service was officially launched from Amritsar on Friday in the presence of senior railway authorities and political leaders. Officials explained that the “who” behind the project includes the Ministry of Railways and the Indian government, while the “what” is the introduction of a non-AC affordable long-distance express train. The “where” includes multiple states connected through the route, and the “why” focuses on strengthening regional connectivity, reducing travel costs, and supporting economic and social mobility. Authorities further stated that the train is equipped with modern passenger facilities and is expected to reduce travel pressure on existing railway routes.
The launch of the Amrit Bharat Express between Amritsar and New Jalpaiguri marks another significant step in India’s railway expansion and connectivity mission. With affordable fares and improved accessibility, the service is expected to benefit thousands of passengers while strengthening business, tourism, and social connections between northern and eastern India.
