Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched the Gramin Gyan Setu App, highlighting an initiative to establish small libraries in villages to encourage children to develop reading habits. Speaking at the launch, Shah said the idea was first introduced in rural areas of his Gandhinagar constituency, where BJP workers have been working to set up libraries near schools and in central village locations.
Shah said around 63 village libraries have already been established, with the initiative being expanded across the Gandhinagar, Kalol and Sanand Assembly constituencies. He said he has personally overseen the initiative and helped select books for the libraries, with collections designed to cater to children of different age groups and interests.
The libraries will feature a mix of storybooks and educational material, including popular tales such as Aladdin’s Magic Lamp and Sindbad’s voyages, along with books on general knowledge, career guidance, Gujarat and Indian history, the freedom struggle and the Revolt of 1857. Shah said the initiative aims to give children easy access to books within their own villages and gradually inspire them to explore a wider world of knowledge.
