Nepal Police has warned the public against spreading “false and baseless” claims on social media regarding relief materials meant for victims of recent flash floods.

The warning came after CPN (UML) Secretary Mahesh Basnet alleged that relief supplies were being stored inside Army and police barracks and offices, with some food items reportedly left to rot instead of being distributed.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Nepal Police said its attention had been drawn to “baseless, fabricated and misleading” information being circulated on social media targeting security agencies. The police urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims.
