Ghaziabad Murder Case Sparks Political Row After Encounter of Main Accused

The murder of a 17-year-old Class 11 student in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad has taken a political turn after the main accused was killed in a police encounter. The teenager was allegedly stabbed to death on June 28 in the Khoda area following an argument. According to police, the accused and his associates had called the victim to a street where a dispute escalated into violence. The victim was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

The accused, who was carrying a reward of ₹50,000, was killed in an encounter with police near Vasundhara in the early hours of June 1. Police said he allegedly opened fire on officers during an attempt to evade arrest, prompting retaliatory action. While one accused was killed, another suspect reportedly managed to escape. The incident had earlier triggered protests in the area, and the victim’s family demanded strict action against those responsible.

The case has now become a major political issue. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while referring to the incident during a public event, said that violence carried out under the guise of friendship would not be tolerated and urged parents to guide their children properly. Meanwhile, opposition leaders, including Congress and Samajwadi Party representatives, questioned the government’s law-and-order record and raised concerns over encounter-based policing. They argued that justice should come through a fair legal process and called for accountability in handling criminal cases across the state.
