PM Modi’s Norway Visit Sparks Discussion on Media Interaction Practices

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Norway, a discussion emerged over media interaction practices after he did not take questions from journalists at a joint press appearance with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

At the event, a Norwegian journalist asked PM Modi about not responding to media questions, noting that open press interactions are a common practice in Norway. The issue was later raised again during a briefing by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Responding to the queries, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George said that India follows its own democratic traditions and highlighted that the Indian Constitution guarantees freedom of the press, democracy, and human rights.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store also commented that different countries have different traditions and approaches when it comes to press conferences and media interactions.
