Planned Ambush? BJP Leader’s Aide Killed in Bengal

West Bengal witnessed fresh political tension after BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s close aide and personal assistant, Chandranath Rath, was shot dead in North 24 Parganas district. Police believe the killing was a planned ambush carried out late Wednesday night in Madhyamgram.

According to police sources, Rath’s vehicle was allegedly followed and blocked before attackers opened fire. Investigators say around 10 rounds were fired during the attack, leaving Rath with multiple bullet injuries. He was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police have started scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning three local history-sheeters in connection with the case. However, the main accused are still absconding.

The murder has intensified post-poll political tensions in West Bengal, with BJP leaders demanding immediate arrests and accusing rivals of targeting party workers. Security has also been tightened in several parts of the district following protests by BJP supporters.
