A citizen-led digital platform, ‘Opinion of Punjab’, was formally launched in Chandigarh on Wednesday with the aim of giving people a platform to raise their issues, concerns and priorities ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections.
The non-profit platform was launched at Tagore Theatre, where more than 1,000 people reportedly joined the launch of the application. Punjab is scheduled to go to polls early next year.
According to the platform’s statement, ‘Opinion of Punjab’ aims to collect and consolidate public issues from more than 13,000 villages and 2,100 municipal wards spread across 117 Assembly constituencies and 23 districts. The collected priorities are intended to be organised into constituency, district and state-level agendas.
The initiative also aims to eventually bring these collective public priorities together in the form of a “people’s manifesto.” The platform positions itself as a citizen-centric effort to document issues raised by people across Punjab and bring them into the broader public and electoral discourse.
