Kathmandu, August 31, 2026: Nepal is reeling from a devastating flash flood disaster, with the death toll rising to 903 on Monday, according to authorities. At least 4,247 people remain missing as rescue teams continue to recover bodies from affected areas.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said that 272 bodies have been recovered from Chitwan, 207 from Nawalparasi East, 151 from Nawalparasi West and 62 from Gorkha.
Prime Minister Balendra Shah described the situation as an “unimaginable and heartbreaking” disaster as rescue and relief operations continue across the country.
Authorities said search and rescue teams are working to locate those still missing, while relief efforts are being carried out in areas badly affected by the floods. With several areas still difficult to access, officials fear the death toll could rise further.
