The Uttarakhand government has temporarily suspended its proposed tree-felling exercise for the Bhaniyawala–Rishikesh road widening project after facing strong opposition from environmentalists, local residents, and civil society groups. The project had planned to remove a large number of trees to facilitate road expansion, triggering widespread concern over its potential impact on the region’s fragile ecosystem and biodiversity.
