The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to grant interim protection to BJP MP Raghav Chadha in his plea alleging misuse of his personality rights through AI-generated deepfakes, manipulated videos, and defamatory social media content. The court was hearing a suit filed after Chadha claimed that misleading content was circulated online following his political shift from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Justice Subramonium Prasad observed that, at this stage, the matter did not establish a violation of Chadha’s personality rights and therefore declined to grant interim relief on that ground. However, the court found that five specific social media posts appeared to be prima facie defamatory and directed that they be taken down pending further proceedings.
The case highlights the growing legal challenges surrounding AI-generated content, deepfakes, and online misinformation in political discourse. While the High Court declined to extend interim protection for personality rights, it emphasized that allegedly defamatory content could not remain online without judicial scrutiny. The matter will now proceed for further consideration before the court.
