CBSE is facing fresh criticism after an internal report reportedly revealed that at least 36 technical, operational, and evaluation-related concerns were flagged during a trial of its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system in January 2026. Despite these warnings, the board rolled out the digital evaluation system for Class 12 answer sheets nationwide in March.

The report raised concerns about the risk of “blind” or superficial checking, lack of interaction among evaluators, weak quality control, and technical issues such as slow performance, missing auto-save features, and difficulties in reviewing answer scripts. Several students later alleged irregularities in their marks, with some even claiming that the scanned answer sheets uploaded by CBSE did not match their handwriting.
Following the controversy, CBSE released an FAQ document stating that many of the technical issues had been addressed through updates and system improvements. However, the board has not publicly responded to questions regarding the findings of the January report, which has further fueled concerns among students and parents about the transparency and reliability of the evaluation process.
