UP Boat Tragedy: 5 Children Among 6 Missing After Boat Sinks in Yamuna

A major tragedy struck Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district after a boat carrying nine people submerged in the Yamuna River on Wednesday evening. While three people managed to swim to safety, six others — including five children and a woman — remain missing.

According to District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal, local villagers and police teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. SDRF, NDRF and flood relief teams have been deployed, and rescue operations are continuing through the night.

Officials said the passengers were returning from a routine trip when the boat suddenly submerged in the river. The surviving boatman claimed the boat did not capsize but sank on its own. Those who knew swimming escaped safely, while the search continues for the missing passengers.

BJP MLA Manoj Prajapati said the administration is on high alert and multiple rescue teams have been deployed at the site. DIG Rajesh Yash confirmed that the missing include one woman and five children between the ages of 5 and 15 years.

The incident comes days after another deadly boat accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district, where 13 people lost their lives after a cruise boat capsized in Bargi Dam waters.
