Post-Election LPG Shock: Commercial Cylinder Prices Surge Nearly 48%

After the conclusion of elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and other states, the government has increased the price of commercial LPG cylinders by ₹993, marking a sharp rise of nearly 47.8%.

The price hike applies to 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders, which had already seen an increase of ₹195.50 earlier in April. Small 5-kg cylinders have also become costlier by ₹261 from May 1. However, the price of domestic 14.2-kg LPG cylinders remains unchanged.

The increase is expected to impact hotels, restaurants, small businesses and the food industry, potentially leading to higher operational costs and increased food prices for consumers. Reports also suggest ongoing concerns over LPG availability and supply issues in several areas.
